Candidate for Ward 9 — Davenport
Hello, Davenport! My name is Neil Simon. I'm a community leader, advocate, entrepreneur, and—most importantly—someone who believes deeply in the power of people working together.
I'm running to be your next Toronto City Councillor for Ward 9—Davenport because I believe our community deserves leadership that listens, shows up, brings people together, and gets things done.
For me, leadership is not about a title. It is about service. It is about trust. It is about being present, accountable, and willing to do the work. This campaign is about bringing people together—across neighbourhoods, cultures, generations, and backgrounds—because every voice matters, and every neighbour counts.
So, I'm asking you to join me. Let's listen to one another. Let's work together. Let's build a Davenport where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can build a stronger community. Together, we will revitalize Davenport. Vote Neil Simon — Ward 9—Davenport.
I look forward to meeting you, listening to you, and earning your vote.
I believe residents deserve a City Councillor who listens, works with the community and focuses on the everyday issues City Hall can actually improve.
Everyone should feel safe where they live, work, shop and travel.
I will work with residents, businesses, City services, community organizations and police where appropriate to address recurring safety concerns. I will support better lighting, cleaner and well-maintained public spaces, prevention programs, community supports and timely action when violence or serious safety risks occur.
Safety and compassion must work together.
Getting around Davenport should not be unnecessarily frustrating.
I will push for practical solutions to traffic bottlenecks, parking pressures, loading and delivery problems and neighbourhood traffic concerns.
Before major street changes are made, I will support the use of traffic data, safety evidence and meaningful community consultation so the effects on residents, businesses, pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and drivers are properly considered.
When something is not working, City Hall should be willing to review it and make improvements.
Residents should be able to depend on the basic transportation services they pay for.
I will advocate for timely road repairs, safer intersections, better coordination of construction projects and reliable TTC service.
I will work for transportation decisions that improve safety and mobility while considering accessibility, congestion, neighbourhood needs and the everyday realities of people getting to work, school, appointments and local businesses.
Residents deserve to know that their tax dollars are being used responsibly.
I will scrutinize City budgets, major spending decisions and contracts, ask difficult questions about costs and look for better value before asking residents to pay more.
Responsible spending does not mean ignoring essential services. It means setting clear priorities, measuring results and making sure public money is being used where it delivers real value.
Davenport needs more housing people can actually afford while protecting the renters and communities already here.
I will support faster delivery of affordable, supportive, non-profit and appropriately located housing; stronger protections for tenants; better enforcement against unsafe housing conditions; and responsible use of City-owned land.
Housing growth must also be supported by the transit, infrastructure, community services and public spaces that growing neighbourhoods need.
Residents should not have to fight City Hall to get information or receive a response.
I will work to make my office accessible and responsive, provide clear updates on major Ward 9 issues and explain how I vote on important decisions.
My goal will be to acknowledge resident concerns within 48 hours and ensure issues requiring additional work are tracked and followed up.
Consultation should happen before major decisions — not after everything has already been decided.
Strong neighbourhoods depend on the people and businesses that hold them together.
I will advocate for better access to recreation and opportunities for young people, accessible services and public spaces for seniors, support for families facing affordability pressures and practical assistance for local businesses dealing with construction, permitting, parking, loading, safety and City bureaucracy.
I will work directly with residents, neighbourhood organizations and Business Improvement Areas while making sure individual residents and businesses can also be heard.
I do not believe one councillor has all the answers.
Good municipal leadership means listening, bringing people together, studying the evidence, making decisions and then measuring whether those decisions are actually working.
My commitment is simple: be present, be accessible, tell residents the truth about what City Hall can and cannot do, and work every day to make Davenport stronger.
Together, let's build a stronger Davenport.
